A scientist advising the Government on Covid-19 testing says a “test and release” system should have been introduced months ago – preventing the current “pingdemic”.
Professor Sir John Bell, an immunologist and Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford, said there was “clear data” backing up the move.
And he said it could have been put in place back in January.
This would be see people who come into contact with Covid cases required to take tests rather than quarantine for 10 days.
Last week it emerged 618,903 people had been instructed to isolate by the Covid app – with critics saying businesses are grinding to a halt because of lack of staff.
